Hotel, the oldest hotel on the Iberian Peninsula and the first
of its kind in Europe has been operating since 1764.
The Hotel became most known, after the ten days visit of Lord
George Byron in 1809, but other famous people stayed in
Lawrence's, such as William Beckford, Eça de Queirós, Camilo
Castelo Branco, Alexandre Herculano, and many others, both
from the political as well as from the art scene.
