Caixa de texto: Summer School 2008 √ Closed From 7 July to 2 August and from 1 to 20 September WELCOME TO THE LISBON SUMMER IN NOVA In line with other major European and international universities, this July and September 2008 the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences (FSCH) of the Universidade Nova in Lisbon will once again be offering a Summer School (the third year it has done so) consisting of a wide range of short intensive courses organised by its various Departments. Aimed at a varied public (university students, graduates, the general public) from Portugal and the rest of the world, the compact yet intensive courses aim to present, discuss and deal with general themes or specific matters in the areas of human and social sciences covered by the various Departments within FCSH. The courses will thus provide a space for both the updating of and critical reflection on these areas, as a part of an in-service training or supplementary educational project. Students of FCSH or of other faculties or universities, teaching staff, specialists who wish to develop or update their own knowledge will find a varied choice offered by the Summer School in which special attention will be given over to dialogue. In the same way, the more general public interested in widening their horizons or satisfying a wish to exercise their intellectual capacities will find that attending the Summer School will provide a stimulating working environment. The Summer Courses can also provide a university meeting point between Portugal, Portuguese speaking countries, Europe and the rest of the world. FCSH is this year offering a varied range of courses in the areas of Portuguese Literature and Culture, Linguistics, Classical Languages, History, History of Art, European and World Cultures, Music, Communication, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Philosophy, Geography, Education and Informatics (see Lectures in English) The courses will mainly be given in Portuguese, though some courses will however be offered in English COURSE DETAILS The 2008 Summer School will take place from 7 July to 2 August and from 1 to 20 September and will consist of a varied set of mutually independent courses. Each course will consist of 18 teaching hours and will be offered at various schedules. The July session will have one set of courses and the September session will have another set. Students can opt to do one or several courses, within the same or different area, according to their interests and timetable and availability of course places. A certificate of attendance will be provided for each course (which will require participation in each of the sessions). Upon request, students can be formally evaluated, which, upon being positive, will entitle them to 1,5 ECTS credits.  Attendance on the courses is carried out through enrolment and the payment of a fee. The fee for each course (in Portuguese language) will be 100 euros for the general public and 80 euros for students; the fee for the lectures in English will be 200 euros for the general public and 150 euros for students. There will be a separate fee for evaluation, which will be 20 euros for the general public and 10 euros for students. How to Register Registration for Summer School courses begins in April 1. Before June 20 (for July session) or 21 August (for September session), you can register with an initial payment of a 10 euros nonrefundable registration fee. Deadlines Full payment of the courses is due by the June 20 or August 21 registration deadlines. After those dates, you can still register with the full payment of the courses and a late registration fee of 20 euros. HOW TO PAY • Directly at the Cashier’s Office at FCSH, Av. de Berna. 26-C, Torre B, 1st Floor • By bank transfer, using the following data (please, copy/paste): From Portugal: NIB: 0781 011200000004482 11 From abroad: IBAN: PT 50 0781 011200000004482 11 SWIFT: IGCPPTP1 WITHDRAWS: If for any reason you are unable to attend the course(s) you registered for, you may ask for a reimbursement of the fees under the following conditions; • The Registration fee is nonrefundable • Until the end of May FCSH will reimburse the remaining payment • From 1 to 30 June FSCH will reimburse 40% of the fee • From this date onwards no reimbursement can be made CANCELATION:  The Summer School Organisation Group within the FSCH Faculty reserve the right to cancel any module which does not have a minimum number of students enrolled for it. In the event of the cancellation of any module, any and all payments made will be reimbursed in full. Note: payments will be refunded by bank transfer. In order to do so, Summer School will ask you for your bank data by the time course cancellation will be communicate to you. Refunds are processed two weeks after Summer School receives that information.

A note on accommodation:

The Summer School has a number of places available in university halls of residence run by the Social Services of the UN (in shared rooms for two people). Given the limited number of places, those interested in this accommodation should contact the Summer School staff as early as possible
