Researchers in Residence is brought together by the collaboration between the Institute of Ethnomusicology (INET-md)/Faculty of Social and Human Sciences/New University of Lisbon, Lusíada University of Lisbon and the Association Lusophone Sounds/Festa do Jazz.
The project aims to create awareness of the need for building cooperation between those who make, promote, teach, research and study jazz, and is intended to promote ways to contextualize and develop collaborative work.

Performigrations
From March 24th to April 10th the Instituto de Etnomusicolgoia and the Museu da Música will host Performigrations, a project that explores the intersection of public cultural performance, collaborative art-making, and academic research on mobilities. It proposes a new understanding of ‘territories’, one that emphasizes the performative practices of the people that move toward, within, and through them.

The subjects in hand will be the foundations, procedures and applications in social and cultural areas, as well as working methods amongst poor communities in an empowerment perspective, and the possibilities of its application in Ethnomusicology .

Observatório da Canção de Protesto (OCP): INET-md / IHC partnership with the Municipality of Grândola publicly released on September 19th
The Municipality of Grândola announced that it will publicly present the Observatório da Canção de Protesto on September 19th in the municipality building in Grândola. The project, formally constituted in March 2nd, 2015, has the Instituto de História Contemporânea (IHC) and the Instituto de Etnomusicologia - Centro de Estudos de Música e Dança (INET-md) as official partners.

The OCP aims to the study, observation, systematization and dissemination of information about the protest song, with a particular emphasis on the musical song form. It Intends to preserve the cultural heritage of all who, through music, engaged and committed to defend the values ​​of liberty, fraternity and equality.

The activities will start at 17h in the headquarters of the
Sociedade Musical Fraternidade Operária Grandolense (SMFOG). The first meeting of the OCP's Advisory Council OCP will attended by representative personalities of the world of Protest Song (authors, singers, academics, journalists), such as Professor Anthony Seeger, Adelino Gomes, Manuel Freire, Viriato Teles, John Lóio, Joaquim Vieira, Mário Correia, Paul Sucena and Rui Junior.

In September 21th a musical performance will take place, featuring artists from different sensitivities linked to musical form as a means of protest and intervention.

The OCP also has a partnership with the
Associação José Afonso (AJA).

Conference: Anthony Seeger
On September 21st at 10:00, Distinguished Professor Anthony Seeger will present a paper entitled "Applied anthropology in the USA and Brazil and the lessons that
might be learned from it". Organized by the nstituto de Etnomusicologia - Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança (INET-md), the event will take place in the
Sala Multiusos 3 - Edifício ID of the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (Universidade Nova de Lisboa).

Anthony Seeger is Distinguished Professor of Ethnomusicology, Emeritus, at the University of California Los Angeles, Director Emeritus of Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, and currently a Research Associate at the Smithsonian Institution.  He is the author of three books on the Suya/Kisidje. Indians in Brazil, co-editor of three books, and author of over 120 articles and book chapters on ethnomusicology, anthropology, audiovisual archives, applied ethnomusicology, and intellectual property. He has served as director of three audiovisual archives, taught at three universities, and served as President of both the SEM and the ICTM as well as Secretary General of the ICTM. He is an honorary member of the ICTM, Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and recipient of the Taichi Prize for Traditional Music in 2014.

I International Aveiro's Electroacoustic Music Congress | Electroacoustic Winds 2015
(EAW 2015)
Organized by the Centro de Investigação em Música Electroacústica da Universidade de Aveiro (CIME), the Instituto de Etnomusicologia - Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança (INET-MD) and Arte no Tempo, this event will take place at the Centro Cultural e de Congressos de Aveiro and at the Auditório da Reitoria da Universidade de Aveiro, between 16 and 20 September.

Focusing on the composers John Chowning (1934), Jean-Claude Risset (1938) and Daria Semegen (1946), the EAW 2015 will be attended by guest speakers Ludger Brümmer, Michael Iber, António Sousa Dias, Luis Antunes Pena, Flo Menezes, Alexander Mihalic and Miguel Azguime, covering the areas of Synthesis, Spatial Distribution, Composition and Noise, Sound and Image, Algorithmic Composition and Interpretation and Preservation in Live Electronics.

The congress will be complemented by a set of training and showcasing activities, such as five mixed music and pure electronics concerts, with the participation of soprano Maureen Chowning and musicians Henry Portovedo, Pedro Rodrigues and Monika Streitová.

Dulce Simões wins Prémio de Investigação Cidade de Almada 2015

Dulce Simões, postdoc at the Instituto de Etnomusicologia – Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança - Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa won the 2nd edition of the Prémio de Investigação Cidade de Almada, in the category of Humanities, with the work "Memórias e Identidades da Cooperativa de Consumo Piedense".
The evaluation of the research projects was in charge of a jury that includes representatives of the Academia das Ciências de Lisboa - Artur Anselmo de Oliveira Soares, José Alberto Loureiro dos Santos, Luís António Aires Barros and Miguel Telles Antunes - and Councilman Antonio Matos representing the Municipality of Almada.
Promoted by the city of Almada, the Prémio de Investigação Cidade de Almada fosters the potential of research as an engine of local development, and aims to project the Municipality as an area of knowledge and innovation.

Grants announcement
The Musicology Department, in association with INET-md and CESEM, is pleased to announce that, until July 11th, registration for the PhD program in Musicology with the title "Music as Culture and Cognition" is open. This program will be funded by FCT in the next four years, and is available to a maximum of 12 candidates, of which at most 5 can obtain a research grant, both a research grant for the 1st year, and a doctoral grant for following three years.
