Specific objectives of

INET-MD's main objective is the development of research, choreography and musical creation, training and community outreach in the fields of music and dance. To this end, INET-MD is pursuing the following specific objectives:

- To conduct field research as well as study archives on music and dance, focusing on and questioning processes and areas of study such as traditional, popular, art, and contemporary music and dance, jazz, music and dance of migrant communities, cultural industries, technologies and media

- To stimulate the creation of music and choreography as a result of continued research;

- To promote and develop research in emerging areas related to the prospects of its scope and purpose;

- To contribute to the training of doctoral and young researchers in specialized areas of the Institute, integrating them in research projects;

- To financially support the participation of its members in national and international scientific and artistic events and publishing the results of their research;

- To provide training and research experience in specialized areas of the Institute, particularly in emerging areas;

- To promote the exchange of ideas and research results between Portuguese and foreign researchers, by organizing conferences and seminars and by discussion forums online;

- To collaborate with researchers and national and international institutions;

- To contribute to the development of scientific organizations, networks and research projects, as well as post-graduate programs;

- To promote and encourage the mobility of teachers, researchers and post-graduate students between national university institutions and international interlocutors of the Institute;

- To publish the results of creative work and research carried out within the unit, both nationally and internationally, giving priority to
peer reviewedjournals, monographs and audiovisual collections;

- To produce and disseminate knowledge on all areas of music and dance, providing an online multimedia database about expressive culture in Portugal and the lusophone sphere;

- To develop an audiovisual archive, utilizing the processes and latest techniques of
digitalization, archiving and indexing;

- To perform activities for the general public, in collaboration with other institutions (schools, museums, foundations);

- To provide training for the non-academic public through the Institute's areas of expertise by means of the organization of workshops, thematic exhibitions, conferences, free courses, etc.;

- To involve musicians, dancers and other artists in the Institute's activities, documenting their biographies, artistic production and making their work known to the public.
